Jimmy Savile family's 'turmoil' over sex abuse claims
Police say Jimmy Savile could have sexually abused as many as 300 people The nephew of Jimmy Savile has spoken of his family's "turmoil" over allegations of sexual abuse surrounding the late TV presenter and DJ.
Police have said Savile could have sexually abused as many as 300 people.
Roger Foster said the claims had "overwhelmed" Savile's family and left them questioning their feelings towards him and his charitable work.
But their own "despair and sadness" could not compare to that felt by the victims, said Mr Foster.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have suffered from every kind of abuse over so many years, and we offer our deepest sympathy in what must have been a terrible time for all of them," he said.
Mr Foster said he did not know when the allegations against his uncle would end, adding that the repercussions of the scandal were "enormous".
The Catholic Church in England and Wales has confirmed it has written to the Vatican to ask if Savile's papal knighthood can be posthumously removed.
